You are the expert of your own life, and your experiences can have a positive influence on others.

Why should you share your story?

There are many positive reasons to share your story.1 Here are a few that inspire us.

Realize that sharing your story can help others. You are the expert of your own life, and your experiences can have a positive influence on others.

Find your voice. Think about your journey – from beginning, to middle, to end – and consider how this has contributed to who you have become.

Re-affirm your values. How will you choose to represent yourself and who you have become through your journey?

Find peace, finding hope. The chapter of your journey has yet to be written – find your voice and capture what is important.

We have compiled a few ideas to get you started. There is no wrong way to tell your story. Some traditional approaches include audio, or video using your phone or home computer. Art and poetry have also been powerful tools for storytelling.

Try a video!

– Record with your phone horizontal. Hold it steady; consider propping it up against something.

– You can also record with a laptop or desktop.

– Choose good lighting. Shoot outside with the sun facing you, not behind you. Use natural light when shooting indoors.

– Check your background. Make sure it isn’t cluttered.

– Record in a quiet place.

– Set your phone on airplane mode.

– Try several takes to get comfortable.

– Frame your shot by keeping your camera at eye level and making sure you are in the middle of the screen. Make sure you’re not looking down at the camera as that may make your chin and neck look disproportionate.

Don’t worry about editing your video. We will take care of that for you.

Try an audio recording!

– Hold your smartphone close to you while recording. You can also use headphones or an external microphone to record

– You can also record with a laptop or desktop.

– Choose a quiet place to record with limited to no background noise.

– Check your background. Make sure it isn’t cluttered.

– Set your phone on airplane mode.

– Try several takes to get comfortable.

– Set your phone on a soft surface that limits vibration.

Don’t worry about editing your audio. We will take care of that for you.
