Free hepatitis C, HIV and syphilis testing for the month of June
“Southeastern Idaho Public Health will be offering free hepatitis C, HIV and syphilis testing to individuals throughout the month of June in all their county locations. Testing only takes a few minutes, and you can get results before you leave. Visit siphidaho.gov to locate a clinic near you. Same-day appointments are available. There is only one way to know — get tested.”

Sobriety restrictions on hepatitis C treatment raise healthcare costs
“People with hepatitis C in the U.S. who are insured through state Medicaid programs that require them to be sober to access treatment are more likely to be hospitalized and tend to rack up higher healthcare-related costs, a new analysis demonstrates.”

Impact of HCV elimination on metabolism markers in people living with HIV
“Coinfection with hepatitis C virus (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) alter lipid and glucose metabolism mediated by cytokines release. Our aim was to assess the evolution in metabolic plasmatic markers of people living with HIV (PLHIV) after HCV elimination either spontaneously or with direct active antivirals (DAAs).”

Cryo-EM structures of HCV E2 glycoprotein bound to neutralizing and non-neutralizing antibodies determined using bivalent Fabs as fiducial markers
“Global elimination of hepatitis C virus (HCV) will require an effective cross-genotype vaccine. The HCV E2 envelope glycoprotein is the main target of neutralizing antibodies but also contains epitopes that elicit non-neutralizing antibodies which may provide protection through Fc effector functions rather than direct neutralization.”

More Accurate Virus Detection Delivered by Bioluminescence-Based Diagnostic
“Researchers at Mass General Brigham have developed a new diagnostic method that significantly enhances virus detection by harnessing bioluminescence. The tool, called the Luminescence CAscade-based Sensor (LUCAS), was designed to be portable, fast, and highly sensitive and is capable of diagnosing SARS-CoV-2, HIV, hepatitis B (HBV), and hepatitis C (HCV) with over 94% accuracy in less than 23 minutes. Details of the new point-of-care diagnostic tool are published in Nature Biomedical Engineering.”

Trump Budget Ends All CDC HIV Prevention Programs, While Maintaining Care, Treatment, and PrEP
“Washington DC… The Fiscal Year 2026 budget released by the Trump administration, which largely maintains funding for existing domestic HIV care, treatment, and PrEP programs, eliminates HIV prevention and surveillance at the CDC, housing, and other programs, amounting to cuts of over $1.5 billion.”
